Crown Thinning

Crown thinning is the removal of a percentage not greater than 30% of the branches thoughout the crown, to give a uniforn density.  The branches to be removed should mainly be in the outer edges of the crown, creating many small cuts.

 

Crown thinnings can be used to let light though the tree without altering the size of the tree.  It will also reduce the wind resistance and weight of the tree.

 

Crown thinnings:

  • Remove branches throughout the crown

  • Max 30% removed

  • Light passes through tree

  • Reduce trees wind resistance

  • Reduce trees weight
