Deadwood can present a hazard if it were to fall out of a tree.  Aerial deadwood is improtant for habitat used by many invertibrates and potentially birds and bats.  Three factors should be taken into account when considering removing deadwood: the location of the deadwood, is it above a target; the wood decay characteristics of different tree species; and the size of the piece(s) of deadwood.
